What is the ideal KAYA PRO Tops Rate?
We recently released a new training metric in KAYA PRO’s performance featuresuite called Tops Rate. You may have seen this number presented as an athlete stat during an ifsc world cup event.
Along with height and reach, tops rate can tell you a lot about a climber and their training patterns, especially when looked at over different time periods.
Read on as Climbing Coach and Triple Crown champion, Juliet Hammer, breaks down what Tops Rate is and what it means to your climbing progression.
Do you know how much you’re really sending?
KAYA PRO’s Tops Rate helps you know for sure by breaking down the percentage of tops versus your total attempts.
Why does it matter?
It allows you to stay on track when determining the difficulty of climbs to try.
What’s a good tops rate?
A general rate to shoot for is between 60-85% tops. If you’re closer to 100%, this indicates that you can push your limits further and hop on more difficult climbs. If you drop below 50%, this may be a sign that you should build up your mileage below your limit and practice executing and succeeding.
Maintaining this balance allows you to train smarter and ultimately stand on top of your dream climbs! 😃
Note: Your tops rate will vary session to session depending on the focus or phase of training you’re in. Review your tops rates at the 30 day, 6 month or 1 year mark for a bigger picture of your climbing training trends.
